Why battery companies rank among the best places to work in America

Best place to work

BCI members win regular recognition for efforts to support employees and their communities

The U.S. battery industry provides 106,000 direct jobs and more than $35 billion in business output nationwide. BCI member companies offer much more than a paycheck, too, with stable, high-quality jobs that are consistently recognized nationwide as great places to work.

As demand for energy storage, transportation electrification, and critical infrastructure continues to grow across the U.S., the battery industry is experiencing sustained expansion and innovation. That growth is translating into employment opportunities that offer competitive wages and career advancement.

It’s also an opportunity to be part of an industry that invests in its people, and believes strongly in supporting the communities that battery companies call home.

Here are three tangible examples of BCI member companies whose workplace cultures and community involvement show why battery companies are among America’s best places to work.

Stryten Energy: Empowering women and supporting communities

Stryten Energy received the 2025 Women’s Choice Award for Best Companies to Work – Inclusion,  a recognition that highlights organizations committed to fostering inclusive and supportive workplaces for women.

This award is a recognition of Stryten Energy’s long-term commitment to creating an inclusive workplace where women can thrive, advance, and lead. Through its engagement in groups such as Women in Auto Care Association and BCI’s Women in the Global Battery Industry, the company proves a commitment to supporting career development for women, promote equitable opportunities, and provide pathways for advancement and high-earning potential.

Outside of its corporate office, Stryten Energy and its employees also actively support their communities in meaningful ways. Teams volunteer with and financially support organizations that serve military members and veterans, such as the Rivers of Recovery program or sponsoring wreaths for veterans’ graves during the holidays. Employees also take part in environmental clean-ups, recycling events, and Adopt-a-Road projects to keep local areas clean and safe.

Stryten’s commitment to strengthening both its workforce and the communities where its employees live are a positive example of what positive leadership looks like.

EnerSys: Recognized for Responsible Leadership and Community Impact

EnerSys has been named to Newsweek’s America’s Most Responsible Companies list for the fourth consecutive year, a distinction that reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible business practices, transparency, and stakeholder engagement. This national recognition highlights companies that demonstrate strong performance across environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and corporate governance.

In 2025, EnerSys further strengthened its record of recognition by receiving the German ESG Transparency Award and earning two U.S. Department of Energy Better Plants Program awards for energy performance and operational excellence. These honors underscore our focus on continuous improvement, resource efficiency, and disciplined execution across our global operations.

EnerSys has also maintained the #1 ranking in the social category from Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) for multiple years, reinforcing our strong performance in areas such as workforce engagement, governance, and community involvement.

Across our global footprint, we strive to be a responsible corporate citizen. Our teams actively support local communities through volunteerism and partnerships with organizations such as Feeding America, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Nature Conservancy, Habitat for Humanity, and Teachers’ Warehouse. In April, EnerSys will once again host its Patriot Power 5K in Reading, Pennsylvania, with 100% of proceeds benefiting military and veterans’ groups.

EnerSys has participated in Great Place to Work® employee engagement surveys across multiple global locations. In both 2023 and 2025, several countries across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America achieved Great Place to Work® certification. Insights from these surveys continue to guide our efforts to strengthen workplace culture and employee engagement across our global organization.

East Penn Manufacturing: A longstanding commitment to employees

East Penn Manufacturing has been recognized as a Best Place to Work in PA for 22 years – a testament to its consistent focus on employee well-being, safety, and engagement.

This long-standing recognition reflects East Penn’s dedication to building careers, not just jobs. By offering competitive wages, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for advancement, East Penn supports thousands of employees and their families, while reinforcing economic stability throughout its surrounding communities.

The company’s efforts are being recognized nationally as well. Recently, East Penn was ranked 15th by the Best Companies Group as one of the country’s 2026 Best Places to Work in Manufacturing. Its Temple, TX facility was also named among the Best Places to Work in Texas for 2025.

Like many other BCI members, East Penn Manufacturing and its employees are also deeply engaged in community service and charitable activities. Employees regularly participate in and lead fundraising campaigns for the United Way of Berks County, where East Penn has earned recognition for its outstanding employee engagement, and have contributed annually since 2011. Teams also support initiatives such as company blood drives with Miller-Keystone Blood center and annual toy and turkey drives through Friend Inc. Community Services. Beyond financial contributions, employees serve on nonprofit boards, volunteer their time, and support education, health, and social services efforts that help build stronger communities.

The battery industry builds stronger communities

These BCI members show a long-term commitment to employees and the communities they serve. But they also represent a powerful truth about the U.S. battery industry: that giving back does not happen through a single program or event. It happens every day – through safe workplaces, inclusive cultures, long-term careers, and steady employment that allows people to support their families and invest in their communities.

BCI proudly supports our members like Stryten Energy, EnerSys, and East Penn Manufacturing that prove a long-term commitment to their people. The battery industry is a critical part of the U.S. economy because it powers essential technologies, but it also powers communities through career opportunity, workforce development, and volunteerism.
