Flow Battery Industry Group

The BCI Flow Battery Industry Group is responsible for a broad scope of activities related to flow battery technology including supply chain development and expansion, stakeholder networking and education, safety and standardization, and promotion of safety protocols and best practices for flow batteries and related products which affect the industry. It acts as a focal point for the application and commercialization of flow batteries.

Scott Childers, FBIG Chairman

Battery Council International (BCI) announced the formation of its Flow Battery Industry Group (FBIG) in 2023 in response to continued innovation and adoption of this emerging energy storage technology.

The concept for the FBIG grew out of public-private partnership discussions between BCI and its partners at U.S. national labs, and leading energy storage companies rallied behind the idea. Membership in the FBIG is open to all flow battery developers and manufacturers worldwide, as well as component suppliers, end-users, government and academic experts, and other stakeholders.

Scott Childers, Vice President of Essential Power at Stryten Energy is currently the Chairman of the FBIG.

Current members of the FBIG include:

Flow batteries store energy in electrolytes and provide easy-to-scale technology at a low cost. They are environmentally stable, recyclable and have a low carbon footprint. Flow batteries are an important technology to provide long-duration energy storage and on-demand energy.

In 2025, Battery Council International launched the Flow Batteries North America Conference in partnership with the FBIG and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
