Being good neighbors is important to the lead battery industry year round. But we especially like to share our goodwill during the holidays. It’s a great time to support the local communities where our 20,000 employees live and work.
This year, Ohio-based Crown Battery adopted two families and two senior citizens for the 2017 Sandusky County Community Christmas Project. Organized by the United Way, Community Christmas connects businesses, organizations and individuals who wish to help families in need during the holiday season. The goal is to put healthy food on tables and provide meaningful gifts.
Organizers provided Crown with names and family “wish lists,” and Crown’s employees mobilized to make those wishes come true.
Employee donations and shopping ranged from toys and food to household cleaning supplies. Foremost, the company ensured that each family would have a holiday meal to enjoy on Christmas Day while opening gifts. Speaking of gifts, Crown’s engineering department even pitched in to purchase a microscope for one child’s wish list. The company’s teamwork culminated in Crown volunteers spending a day wrapping gifts before they made their way to Santa’s waiting sleigh.
Meanwhile, in neighboring Pennsylvania, East Penn Manufacturing Co., participated in the Friend Incorporated Toy Drive, an annual tradition for the family-owned lead battery company. Employees donated toys for all ages to be distributed to local children in need to make their holidays a little brighter. More than 400 gifts were collected, which makes us think that Santa’s sleigh must be close to overflowing!
These are just two examples of how the dedicated people behind the great companies that make up the lead battery industry give back to the communities where we work and live. Thank you Crown Battery and East Penn, and Happy Holidays to all!
