Battery Technical Manual Section BCIS-03B: BCI Recommended Battery Material Specifications, Flooded Battery Separator Test Methods

Revised 01/2021

BCIS-03B includes physical test methods (dimensional stability, porosity, puncture resistance, thickness, and wetting) and chemical test methods (chemical/oxidation resistance, metal analysis, and separator composition) for flooded battery separators. These test methods are listed for reference only, and represent common testing protocols that are used in the lead-acid battery and separator industry. It is the responsibility of the battery producer and separator manufacturer jointly to agree on test methods and specifications for a given separator that is supplied for a particular type of battery.
