Battery Council International, a global leader in Environmental Health & Safety best practices, aims to raise global standards
The Battery Council International (BCI), North America’s leading trade association for the energy storage industry and a global leader in lead safety practices, has announced it will lend its expertise to the Lead Training Academy: Learning Lead Course 2026.
This landmark professional development program, designed to elevate Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) leadership across all industries and regions of the world, will be produced in partnership with the International Secondary Lead Conference and take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on October 26-28.
“As the definitive gathering point for the lead battery industry’s EHS knowledge, BCI and its member companies have a rich history of constant improvement that represents the gold standard in lead safety practices,” said BCI President and Executive Director Roger Miksad. “By supporting the Lead Training Academy, BCI is reaffirming its longstanding commitment to sharing decades of scienced-based frameworks and proven success with EHS professionals everywhere in the world.”
Since 1997, BCI’s members across the lead battery manufacturing and recycling industries have voluntarily adopted a successful program to achieve occupational health goals for their employees that are significantly more protective than those required by U.S. and global regulators. The industry has continued the program and regularly strengthened it over the intervening years, achieving continuous year-over-year reductions in employee blood lead levels that prove the efficacy of BCI’s industry-led standards. BCI and its members regularly share those learnings in North America at BCI’s EHS Conference, meeting bi-annually since 1992, and around the world through training delegations and programs like the Learning Lead Course.
The Lead Training Academy is directly aligned with BCI’s mission to support global efforts to raise EHS standards, bringing together EHS leaders from diverse industries and geographies to exchange knowledge, build competency, and drive meaningful change. As the lead sponsor of the event, BCI will take an active and substantive role that includes:
- Key programming leadership, including co-developing and contributing to course modules that reflect high-impact areas where meaningful progress is possible.
- Expert speakers and facilitators drawn from BCI’s network of trusted EHS subject matter experts.
- Integration of BCI’s evidenced-based insights, standards, and real-world case studies directly within course content.
- Official certificates of attendance and completion recognizing participants’ engagement with world-class EHS education and their support of BCI’s world-class standards of lead safety.
“BCI Is proud to host the best ideas from around the globe for protecting workers and the environment. We are showcasing what works, and sharing real-world experiences to ensure every attendee can go home and immediately make their workplace and their communities safer by putting best practices into action,” said BCI’s Roger Miksad.
