Preservation of Section 45X credits in landmark legislation strengthens American energy storage leadership
Battery Council International (BCI) commends Congress and President Trump for their decisive action to preserve the Section 45X Advanced Manufacturing Production Credits for battery manufacturing in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed into law on July 4. This recognition of domestic battery manufacturing’s strategic importance reinforces America’s position as a global leader in energy storage technology.
The retention of these critical manufacturing incentives demonstrates a clear understanding that American battery manufacturers are essential to our nation’s economic security, energy independence, and competitive advantage. The 45X credits have already catalyzed billions in domestic investment and created thousands of good-paying manufacturing jobs across the country.
“This vote sends a powerful message that America is committed to building and maintaining the world’s most advanced battery manufacturing ecosystem,” said Roger Miksad, BCI President and Executive Director. “These credits don’t just support individual companies — they strengthen our entire domestic supply chain and ensure America remains the global leader in battery innovation.”
With manufacturing prowess more than 125-years in the making, the domestic battery industry powers nearly every car and truck, the critical infrastructure of data centers and telecommunications, and key military applications. By preserving these manufacturing incentives, Congress and the Administration have reinforced America’s manufacturing base while supporting technologies essential to grid reliability and national security.
Since Election Day last November, BCI has engaged in an extensive public advocacy campaign that included a policy briefing document and direct outreach to Congressional offices, as well as a transition document for the Trump administration and public statements of support for 45X manufacturing credits.
“Battery Council International thanks President Trump and Congress for their hard work over these last several months, but we also offer our sincerest gratitude to all the legislative aides, White House staffers and others who worked with our organization so that BCI could make sure the voice of the battery industry was heard,” said BCI’s Roger Miksad.
BCI and its 140+ members stand ready to continue working with the President and Congress to advance policies that strengthen American manufacturing, create jobs, and maintain our nation’s technological leadership in the rapidly evolving energy storage sector.
