Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

After much review, dialogue with key stakeholders and considerable evaluation of the evolving public health situation posed by COVID-19, the BCI Board of Directors decided that it had no option but to cancel the 2020 BCI Convention + Power Mart Expo, April 26-28 in Henderson, NV.

Why did you make the decision to cancel?

BCI did not take this unprecedented decision lightly. BCI recognizes how important the Convention is to our members, suppliers and attendees. But the health and safety of our members and attendees is our utmost concern.

BCI leadership had been continuously monitoring the situation and the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control ("CDC") and the World Health Organization ("WHO"). In recent days, the impracticability and impossibility of holding the event was made clear. Among other factors considered, the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic; the United States CDC issued a health advisory declaring COVID-19 a public health emergency of international concern; the United States suspended travel to and from countries where many of our attendees travel from; the CDC issued guidance to avoid mass-gatherings of people if possible; and President Trump declared a national emergency.

Will the 2020 BCI Convention + Power Mart Expo be rescheduled to take place later this year?

There are many details and factors that go into planning an event such as the BCI Convention + Power Mart Expo. While we are still looking to our options, we do not anticipate that BCI will be able to reschedule the 2020 BCI Convention + Power Mart Expo for later this year as an in-person event. Details on the first-ever BCI Virtual Convention + Power Mart Expo will be shared in the coming weeks.

We also look forward to welcoming you to next year’s BCI Convention + Power Mart Expo, April 25-27, 2021 in Naples. FL, and at the BCI Environmental, Health and Safety Conference, October 27-28, 2020 in St. Louis, MO.

Will any sessions be made available virtually?

Yes! BCI is working with our partners to deliver valuable content from the Convention to our attendees and members through an online platform in the coming months. Watch your email inbox for news on the first-ever BCI Virtual Convention.

Will refunds be issued?

BCI is a not-for-profit trade association, dedicated to serving the interests of the lead battery industry. The cancellation of the 2020 Convention + Power Mart Expo will have a significant impact on BCI’s financial situation. We are diligently working on plans on how to provide refunds to the best of our ability to those that request one.

To help BCI bridge this significant financial challenge, we ask that attendees consider applying their 2020 registration fees toward a registration for next year’s event. You will not be charged additional fees for next year’s event for the same category of registration, even if the standard registration fees increase. You will also receive a free registration to the 2020 BCI Virtual Convention (a $159 value for members). BCI also intends to provide special recognition and other incentives to companies and individuals that are willing to help BCI during this difficult period. Additional details will be forthcoming shortly.

If you would like to apply your registration fee to the 2021 Convention + Power Mart Expo, you do not need to do anything. If we do not hear otherwise by April 17, 2020, we will automatically register you for the 2021 Convention. To request a refund, please email info@batterycouncil.org.

Can we apply our 2020 BCI Convention + Power Mart Expo registration towards the 2021 meeting?

Yes. BCI will allow any attendee who has already paid a registration fee to transfer it to the 2021 event. These attendees will not be required to pay a registration fee in 2021 for the same category of attendee. You will receive more information from BCI about this soon.
